Jack's camp has ten spacious and stylish canvas tents with en-suite bathrooms and indoor and outdoor showers. The tents have been fashioned in classical style and are set into a palm grove creating an oasis of peace and tranquility. Persian rugs underfoot and cool cotton sheets form a striking contrast with the rugged wilderness viewed from the comfort of one’s own verandah. There is a also a swimmingpool, a dining tent and a Persian-style 'tea tent', which comes complete with a small library of books. There is no electricity in the rooms, only at the main buildings.
The Makgadikgadi Pans are part of the Kalahari Basin – this huge expanse of pristine, sugary white landscape is bigger than Switzerland. Jack's camp is located in the Ntete pan on an island dotted with high palm trees.
During the wet season zebra and wildebeest migrate into the area, this is southern Africa’s last surviving zebra and wildebeest migration. Hundreds of thousands of flamingo appear from nowhere to feed as long as the water lasts. Also a permanent haven for desert species such as the captivating and engaging meerkat and the elusive brown hyaena. But generally do not expect to see too much wildlife, this place is to wander around, experience the salt pans, enjoy wonderful sunsets or rest under one of the ancient baobab trees.
Nature drives and walks (some guided by Bushmen trackers), night drives, and visits to sites of archaeological or historical interest. During the dry season, 4WD quad bikes can be used to venture from jack's Camp onto the saltpan.
The owners of Jack's camp have befriended a family of suricats which can be visited. If you sit very still one of these funny animals may decide to use your head as a view point ....
