Kalahari Plains CampCentral Kalahari

Kalahari Plains was provisionally built in 2008 as the first camp in the Kalahari. In December 2009 it was reopened on a permanent site. Before that, one could only drive to the Kalahari on a private 4x4 expedition or join a guided camping tour, and there, spend the dark nights in the endless loneliness, accompanied by the roar of lions at night and the cry of jackals, wonderful! The simple camp offers everything you need for a comfortable Kalahari experience. Ten slightly elevated luxury tents with en-suite bathroom, veranda and "roof terrace", where you can sleep under the endless Kalahari night skies if you wish. Lounge, dining area and bar in the main building.

The Central Kalahari Game Reserve is located in the heart of Botswana and is 5 million hectares, making it the largest game reserve in Botswana and one of the largest in the world. The camp is situated near the beautiful valley of the Kalahari: the Deception Valley. A great book to bring along is "Cry of the Kalahari" by Mark and Delia Owens, two young scientists in the seventies who lived seven years in the Deception Valley. Great reading material before or during the trip.

The grass, flowers and occasional acacia trees await the first much-needed rain (usually in November) and the desert tranforms itself, by March, into a big sea. Populated by herds of oryx and springbok, gemsbok, giraffe and wildebeest, the place is extremely picturesque. Jackals, squirrels, chameleons, tortoises, wild dogs, monkeys, and predators, such as cheetahs, lions with black manes and brown hyenas, can also be seen.

Game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, bush walks, encounters with San bushmen.

Perfect in combination with the Okavango Delta for a holistic Botswana experience.
