Caņon Lodge in Gondwana Caņon Park is just 20 km away from the Fish River Canyon. 25 natural stone chalets with air conditioning, en suite bathroom and thatched roofs, nestle between massive granite boulders and convey a sense of living in the lap of nature. The main building used to be a farmhouse. It includes a restaurant and a beautiful garden. Read a book at leisure on the terrace shaded by trees or relax at the swimming pool with vistas beyond the Fish River Canyon.
The Fish River Canyon is seen as the largest canyon in Africa and second largest canyon on earth - after the Grand Canyon in the US. Its dimensions are enormous: 160 km long, up to 27 km wide and 500 m deep. The views into the canyon are breathtaking.
Excursions to the Fish River Canyon, trekking and horse riding can be booked from the lodge. If you want to experience the canyon in it's entirety, look into joining a (guided) trekking tour that takes you into the canyon and all the way to the hot springs of Ai-Ais. Accomodation in dome tents will be simple but worth the effort. Treks are only possible during the cooler winter months until September.
