Eight chalets are nestled against a mountain slope and afford unique views of the boundlessness of the desert. Each of the natural rock chalets sits between massive granite boulders and contains a bathroom, kitchenette, fireplace and private veranda. Meals are served at the Desert Horse Inn restaurant. Take-away breakfast or barbecue packs are available on request. On arrival please report to the Desert Horse Inn reception, driving distance is about 15 minutes.
The harbour town of Lüderitz on the Atlantic coast and the deserted former diamond settlement of Kolmanskuppe are no more than an hour's drive away (121 km). Klein-Aus Vista is a good starting point for a drive to the Tiras mountains, best experienced on the D707 road which is said to be the most scenic road in Namibia.
Wild horses roam the sparsely vegetated plains of the Namib Desert in small groups. They come to drink from the trough at Garub, some 20 km west of Aus on the B4 road to Lüderitz. From a hide you can watch the horses and take pictures.
There ares some signed walking trails.
