The Rocktail Beach Camp is located in a remote area in eastern South Africa (Kwazulu Natal), near the border with Mozambique. The beach is kilometers long, remote and untouched. The coast belongs to the "Maputaland Marine Reserve" and is a World Heritage site. The camp is situated on a hill, from which a short, refreshing walk leads you right to the sea.

The coral reefs attract a large number of fish and are a paradise for divers. The arrival of the humpback whales signals the onset of winter. There are also hippos, crocodiles and elephants. If you're lucky, you might even find the footprint of a leopard in the sand!

Superb for divers (bring your diver's licence!). The waters and the marine life in this coast are undisturbed, and no other visitors have access. There are PADI courses available. Diving is not included in the price. Snorkeling, trips to Lake Sibaya, guided walks, horse riding, village visits, quad biking (guided, not on the beach), stars watching. Surfing and motor boats are not permitted due to conservation reasons.

The sea turtles in the Rocktail Bay are protected since 1971 (WWF and Wilderness Fund) and the population has increased since then! Since thousands of years, giant turtles come to the beach to bury their eggs in the sand. The eggs hatch between November and March, and hundreds of small turtles will make their way to the sea. As a guest, you can accompany research personnel responsible for the protection program out to the beach at night during low tide and catch this unforgettable sighting!
